Video Games are Dead Part 2...A New Beginning?

Two weeks ago, I posted on part 1 of Digital Trends' Players Only documentary "Video Games Are Dead" and confirmed that our gaming industry is not coming to an end. More refreshingly, it is growing up.

In Part 2, minds of the gaming industry discuss what is happening and where we are headed.
David Perry states that the video game world is "changing" and it is time to "move with the times." From the Wii, which has inevitably brought a new casual consumer to the table, to hand helds and cell phones, the market is promoting broader diversity which opens the floodgates for development opportunities and gaming communities.
David also stresses the strength of "social networking" and how it is time to "tak[e] the time to look at things that you never looked at." He points out how a website has millions of female users that play games with no cinematics, not story...just dressing up! Why is this happening and what does this say about a person's pereption.?

Other discussions focus on the industry giants and how they might survive an onslaught of independent creators and developers themselves needing "more power" to create awesome games. This inturn leads to the continuing "used game" debate and whether a publisher/retailer agreement might one day be settled so the developers do not suffer.

Overall, it is exciting to see where video games will be going in the next few years. With digital downloading, additional motion controls, and a new market the possibilities are wide open!

I agree, that it is very exciting to see where video games will be headed in the near future.

I would like to see more creativity when it comes to developers...publishers just want to dish games too quickly!
